She is pretty perfect minus all the hairballs she gets. I have tried everything I can think of and I think it's just inevitable that she is going to have a ton of them. :/ She also eats a lot less of her cat food because she just waits for me to give her fresh salmon as treats. She is a princess.

Last night, my 1y7m old male cat fell off the kitchen counter. I noticed almost immediately after that his walking was off-kilter and he was stepping with a high gait. He was also bumping into things, like he was having trouble seeing. He wasn't crying or making "hurt" noises; he was actually purring all the while.
After about 15 minutes, when I saw that he wasn't improving, I knew I had to bring him in to see a vet. I packed him up with a towel and some paper balls (he loves to play with paper) in his carrier and brought him to the LSU Small Animal Emergency Clinic. Once there, he got angry and began growling. He was still having the same problems as he was at the house. He stayed overnight for observation, as there's not much they can really do until Monday.
I went to see Hobbes this morning. His condition was about the same: not seeing clearly, wobbling and high-stepping. The vet said he ate a little bit and has been mostly resting. When I went up to his cage, he began purring loudly and meowing repeatedly. He rubbed up against the front where my fingers were sticking through. I brought some paper with me and the vet tossed a balled up piece in to him. He was interested for a second, but then came back to me instead. I wasn't able to hold or pet him because they want to rule out the possibility of rabies first. I don't think he has rabies, but I understand the severity of having to make sure 100%.
He stayed happy until one of the students came in to check on us. I don't know if he could see her or if he just sensed and smelled her, but he became agitated and angry again. Even with me. This behavior is so uncharacteristic of him that it worries me terribly.
They seem to think it may be some type of neurological condition; that the fall was caused by some sort of problem, rather than the problem being caused by it. There's not much that can be done until tomorrow, so he will be staying there again tonight.
I got maybe 4 hours of sleep last night, and it wasn't restful at all. I kept dreaming about Hobbes and the clinic and vets and Hobbes... over and over. :( My head is throbbing from crying so much and my eyes are red and swollen. I called in to work today because I really just can't function right now.
Hobbes' Patient Update paper that was given to today's vet on call included the following:
Major Problems Identified:
1. Ataxia
2. Absent menace OU
3. Hypermetria both forelimbs
4. Extreme aggression
Diagnostics Performed:
1. Physical examination
2. Complete blood count
3. Chemistry panel
4. Overnight monitoring
Treatment Administered:
Patient hospitalized, Sunday, November 8. (hand written and signed by the vet)
This patient:
was hospitalized and will be transferred to: Internal Medicine

Hello everyone, sorry I have been away, I mostly post on facebook, but I'm still part of Livejournal and this community, as for my news-
After taking Eric Junior(the kitten I got in June 2009, born April 28th of this year) to the vet yesterday, I learned today that he died sometime after I left the vet yesterday or this morning. There were too many fleas and possibly worms in him to break down his immunity system, he stopped eating food on Wednesday the 4th, it is a tragic blow but I think I'm just gonna wait to get the next cat until I get alot of funds, my own decenter environment- the massive fleas are unknown to me how he got the massive fleas- when I got him, he did not have them, but alteast I got to know him better then I did with Moses and Eric Junior was blessed by my Catholic Priest, he can join Eric Senior up in Heaven. Prayers and support in this time of tragedy are most appricated. Have a nice day.

Hi again,
Posted yesterday about bringing home my new boy, and now I'm worried! Since he came home, I've had the devil's own trouble getting him to eat and drink anything. He has eaten and drunk, but very little, and in fact this afternoon I ended up spooning some water down his neck. You see we are into the hot weather here, and today was very hot. Forecast indicates it's going to be a heat wave lasting for at least another 5 days. I don't know the little guy's personality or patterns yet, of course, so don't know if this is just what he's like or if there's a problem. He doesn't appear to be feeling unwell - he happily chased a bug all around the kitchen this evening without trouble. He has wee'd in the tray but no poop (this since Sat afternoon, now Sun night). I wouldn't be so worried if he'd do just one of the two - eat or drink, properly. If he was eating more I'd probably mix a bit of water into his food (have had cats before who didn't drink a lot). but he's not doing either which makes it really hard. And he's young (19 weeks) which may make him more vulnerable. It's been so long since I had a kitten I'm not sure how worried I should get. Any thoughts would be gratefully received.
Oh forgot to mention he's acting like he wants food, which suggests he's being a fussy bugger to me, but still, kitten + not enough to eat and drink + heatwave = me worried.

Happy Birthday, Amy! (Nov 7)
More later but right now I think my body is on cruise control :) But the "three hour tour" (drive home) was blessedly uneventful!

My name is Angela. Im 37 yrs old. I have 2 birds and my latest addition is my kitten booboo. She is 5 months old. She is a mix between a tabby cat and another. ( Read more... )
The past two days I've noticed in the area of what looks like the urethral opening on my female cat some redness. Also looks swollen. Otherwise she is acting normal and eating fine. Plan on taking her to the vet first thing Monday, was just curious if anyone has any idea what it is, possible external signs of an urinary tract infection?

So my little man is fixed. But he still gets the urge to hump things. Especially this stuffed panther plush that I own. BUT, when his girlfriend is unavailable, he goes for the next best thing: The comforter.
He kneads, and talks SO MUCH TRASH when doing his thing. Anyone else have a kitty with this kind of behavior? I find it hilarious.
As you can see, he doesn't like it when I get too close to him.. Haha. And it really made him mad when I turned on the light.
Such a silly boy.
Don't know if anyone have seen this, but it's so cute!
My cat's that talkative, but not with the roomie's cat. Oh, well.

The rest of the photos from the last week! :) Figured I'd post them before my roommate and I go pick up her new kitten! Plenty of spam to come from that, I'm sure!

The kitten of doom! This is the one who had an intimate relationship with my finger. ;) She settled down very quickly and is adorable now! So much so she actually got adopted yesterday!
oday I went to the local Animal Welfare League. It's been 3 months since Kali passed away and while I still miss her terribly I felt it was time for a new cat. Well I looked at all the cats and kittens and there were some nice ones, but I wasn't sure. But then I found out that there were more available in a second row behind, so I went there to have a look. In one of the enclosures was a little 19 week old black and white male, who was very friendly, right up at the wire and wanting a pat. So I thought 'he's cute' and went in there to visit. I picked him up to see how he'd react, and he cuddled into my arms and started to purr.
This is exactly what Kali did 19 years ago. I couldn't help it, I just burst into tears. My sister was with me, and didn't understand why I was crying, but when I explained it she understood immediately.
To cut a long story short that little fellow has come home with me. He has been my flatmate for 6 hours, and so far I have discovered he is a chair thief and a bed hog, and the most sooky, purry, adorable little guy ever! He hasn't eaten or drunk yet, or used the litter tray, so I'm hoping he'll do that soon, but he's certainly relaxed enough to do a lot of snoozing, and was quite calm and relaxed from the moment he arrived (though he wasn't too keen on the car ride) so I'm really happy at the moment. As soon as I can get some decent photos I'll post them.
He's yet to be named - this may take me some time. I think Kali was 'kitty' for about a month before I named her!
